May 2026 Beaufort, SC Fishing Report Forecast

Beaufort SC Fishing Charters

Welcome to the May fishing forecast for Beaufort, SC. This is when everything really starts getting exciting. Pretty much all of the migratory species are either here or showing up throughout the month, which I’m stoked for!

Weather & Conditions Forecast: What to Expect

Expected Air Temp: 65–90°F
Expected Water Temp: 72–80°F

Temperatures are going to keep climbing this month, and the water is fully into that warm spring pattern. Both sets of flood tides (mid-month and toward the end) should be productive, which gives you multiple chances to get after tailing fish.

Fish Behavior: Who’s Showing Up in the Beaufort, SC Waters?

Redfish are still in the same general areas, but they’re not grouped up in tight schools anymore. They’re more spread out, but they’re still feeding consistently.

This is also the month where everything starts showing up: tarpon, cobia, sharks, jacks, tripletail, and bull redfish. These fish are here because of the warmer water, and it’s not uncommon to have opportunities at multiple species in the same day.

Fly Fishing Forecast

Fly Fishing Beaufort SC

For fly fishing, black flies will be the go-to color this month. For redfish, you’ll want flies in that 3–5 inch range.

If you’re trying to sight fish, conditions matter a lot. Clear skies and low wind make a big difference. And having a weatherman that doesn’t lie helps too haha.

Spin Fishing Forecast

Topwater is going to stay effective, especially during first light and right before dark. That bite should be pretty consistent this month. 3–4 inch baits like Z-Man are a go-to for topwater.

Bay Boat Forecast

It’s officially bay boat season again! This is when you start targeting sharks, bull redfish, stingrays, and tarpon more consistently. These trips are perfect for groups or families. It’s a good mix of steady action and chances at bigger trophy fish, whether you’re new or more experienced.

May Challenge: Target a New Species

This month, try to knock a new species off your list, whether that’s cobia, tarpon, or something else you haven’t caught before. May brings in a lot of different fish, so it’s the perfect time to try something new. If you’re looking to check a few off your list and have a good time, give me a call at (843) 725-8558 !
