April 2026 Beaufort, SC Fishing Report: Recap

April was a transition month for fishing in Beaufort SC. Temperatures warmed up, flood tides started, and there was a lot more activity compared to the past few months. Overall, this Beaufort SC fishing report shows things starting to shift into a more consistent spring pattern.

Air temps were mostly in that 55–75 range, and water temps got up to around 70 degrees. With that warmer water, fishing picked up a lot. Flood tides started becoming a real factor, and that brought some of the better opportunities we’ve had so far this year. We also started seeing bigger fish show up, especially bull redfish and sharks, which is always a good sign moving forward.

Fish Behavior

Bulls and sharks were the main new arrivals this month. Cobia, jacks, and tarpon are right around the corner and should be showing up soon, but April was really the start of that transition into more migratory fish.

For fly fishing, darker colors worked really well across all tides. As the water warmed up and got a little dirtier, moving away from lighter patterns made a difference. For flood tides, the first set of tides honestly wasn’t great, but the second set toward the end of the month was a completely different story. There were a lot of tailing fish, they were feeding well, and it turned into some really productive days. Being able to see redfish up in the grass like that never gets old.

Topwater continued to be good, especially during low-light conditions early and late in the day.
