July was realllly hot- Air temps stayed between 80–95°F and the water hit 85–90°F. Midday redfishing was pretty much dead, so we focused on the early morning and late evening shots when things cooled down a bit.
Fish Behavior
Redfish were solid and consistent all month, but the tarpon fishing was awesome. We also had plenty of bull reds around, so if you were looking for bigger fish, the opportunities were definitely there when conditions lined up.
Timing was everything for inshore trips. Getting out at first light or staying out late was the move for redfish, while the hotter middle of the day was better for going after migratory fish. That’s been the main pattern so far this summer and it’ll probably stay that way for a bit.
Memorable Moment
Best moment of the month was definitely on the Fourth of July while tarpon fishing when my dog Cleo decided to jump straight in and go for a swim with them. She loves being on the boat with me and comes along on charter trips pretty often. Whenever someone gets hooked up, she gets way too excited and sometimes jumps in to say hi.
