June was another great month, with air temperatures ranging from 80–95 degrees and water temperatures climbing into the 83–87 degree range. The heat changed the fishing pattern quite a bit.
Inshore fishing was really only productive during the early mornings and late evenings, but if you were targeting specific migratory fish or fishing with bait, you could stay on fish all throughout the day.
Fish Behavior

Redfish continued to be the most consistent catch this month, but there were other species around like tarpon, jacks, bull redfish, tripletail, sharks, and stingrays.
Fly fishing continued to be productive throughout June. Black flies in the 3–5-inch range were still the best choice for redfish.
Flood tide fishing remained strong during the late evening tides, while the early afternoon floods were pretty slow, which wasn’t much of a surprise with the summer heat. Fishing later in the day gave us much better conditions and more active fish.
Spin Fishing- Fishing farther back in the creeks during the middle of the day was tough because the water got so hot, so that’s why I prioritized first light and last light. Topwater lures worked well during those low-light periods, and once the sun came up, switching over to a 4-inch paddletail.
Memorable Moment
One of the coolest moments this month was catching three Lowcountry Slams in the same week. One trip was a bull redfish, tarpon, and cobia slam, while another was a bull redfish, tarpon, and jack slam. Days like that don’t happen often, but it’s pretty sick when they do.
There are so many opportunities to target different fish depending on what you’re looking to catch during the summertime. If you’re planning on fishing in Beaufort SC, or anywhere in the area, this is one of the best months to target migratory fish.
