If I had to pick two months to fish all year, June would definitely be one of them. This is one of the best times for Beaufort SC fishing because there are so many opportunities and so many species around.
Weather & Conditions Forecast: What to Expect
Expected Air Temp: 75-95 °F
Expected Water Temp: 80-90 °F
It’s going to be hot. Really hot. The biggest thing June brings is bright sun and high temperatures. Midday backcountry fishing can slow down because the shallow water heats up quickly, so a lot of the better fishing happens earlier and later in the day.
Fish Behavior: Who’s Showing Up in the Beaufort, SC Waters?
Redfish, tarpon, cobia, jacks, tripletail, and sharks should all be available this month. The warm water keeps these migratory species around and gives anglers a chance to target several different fish in a single trip.

Fly Fishing Forecast
For fly fishing, black flies will continue to be the best. I also like adding some purple into my patterns. I think of purple as a “neon black”. It’s still a darker color, but it stands out a little more in the water. The exact fly usually isn’t as important as making a good cast and making sure the fish sees it. Most of my redfish flies will still be in the 3–5 inch range.
Flood tide fishing should remain productive throughout the month. Most of the flood tides tend to happen later in the day during the summer rather than in the morning. Redfish will be the primary target, but there is always a chance of running into a sheepshead and occasionally a black drum.
Spin Fishing Forecast
For spin fishing, a 4-inch Z-Man Diesel Minnow rigged on a 1/8- or 1/4-ounce Eye Strike jighead remains one of the best options.
Redfish, sharks, tarpon, cobia, and tripletail should all be realistic targets this month. Early mornings and evenings will generally offer the most comfortable conditions, without it being too hot midday.
Bay Boat Forecast
Bay boat fishing should continue to be excellent in June. Bull redfish, tarpon, cobia, sharks, stingrays, catfish, and redfish will all be around.
One thing I like about these trips is that there are opportunities for multiple people to hook up at the same time. They’re great for families, groups, beginners, and anglers looking to catch larger fish. Unlike some other trips, I can run bay boat trips throughout the day because the fishing remains fairly consistent.
June Challenge: Catch a Tarpon
If you’ve never caught a tarpon before, June is a great month to make that happen. It’s my favorite month to catch that species!
There’s something really cool about making a cast, leading a tarpon correctly, watching it eat, and then seeing it jump and run across the water. It takes practice and accurate casting, but it’s one of the most rewarding fish to catch. If you haven’t hooked a true trophy fish yet, add a tarpon to your bucket list. I run tarpon trips on both fly and spin gear from now through September and sometimes into October. Give me a call at (843) 725-8558 !
