September 2025 Beaufort, SC Fishing Report Forecast

Family fishing charter beaufort sc

Welcome to September fishing in the Lowcountry! The month starts cooler thanks to a late-season cold front, with morning air temps in the upper 60s warming to the mid-80s by afternoon. Water temperatures are holding steady in the mid-70s to mid-80s, making for ideal fishing conditions.

Weather & Conditions Forecast: What to Expect

  • Air Temp: Morning 65–70°F, afternoon 80–85°F
  • Water Temp: 75–85°F
  • Tides: Some of the best of the year for both technical and family-style fishing
  • Fishing Pressure: Lower now that summer crowds are gone and schools are back in session

Cooler mornings and warm afternoons create excellent windows for inshore fishing. With fewer boats on the water, fish are less pressured, giving anglers better opportunities, especially for sight casting tailing redfish.

Fish Behavior: Who’s Showing Up in the Beaufort, SC Waters?

Same as last month: Tarpon, Bull Redfish, Tripletail, Jacks

As the month progresses, tarpon, jacks, and tripletail begin moving out gradually, but redfish remain active in the shallows, making it a fantastic time for sight fishing.

Fly Fishing Forecast

Top Patterns: Black continues to outperform other colors

Fly Sizes: 3-inch flies for flood tides; 4–5 inches for other situations

Tips: Focus on sighting tailing redfish during evening flood tides. This is the perfect month to cast to large, colorful tails while conditions are calm and clear.

Light Tackle & Family Fishing

Technical Anglers: Early morning and evening are still the most productive, especially on flood tides.

Family/Big Boat Trips: Any time of day is good, depending on weather. Bull reds and sharks are still reliable targets. Bait remains strong, but keep in mind it will start moving out as the water cools further.

September Challenge: Tailing Red Slam

September is the best month for flood tide sight fishing! This month’s challenge: try to spot a tailing redfish before I do. Look for a colorful orange or blue tail with a black spot. If you see one during your trip, let me know. It is a great way to test your sight-fishing skills and practice efficient catch-and-release techniques.
